An Overview of the Key Changes in the Legislation
The new Hamburg Building Code (Hamburgische Bauordnung) came into force on 1 January 2026. Among other changes, this introduces new procedures for obtaining building permits, simplifies the process for building alterations and conversions to residential use, replaces the parking space requirement with a mobility certificate, and abolishes compensation payments.
