Dr. Michael Schäfer

Michael Schäfer is one of the firm's founding partners and has been advising on real estate law for several years. His clients appreciate his immersive knowledge and his deep industry expertise.

Michael specialises in advising project developers, institutional and financial institutions and the public sector. He advises on all aspects of real estate law, particularly on real estate transactions and project developments. Michael is regarded as an efficient advisor with commercial intuition, result-oriented thinking and great negotiating skills. He is also one of the leading international lawyers for large-volume PPP projects.

Michael studied law at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-University of Bonn. He received his doctorate at the University of Hamburg in the field of environmental law. After 21 years of practice at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer – 16 years of which as a partner – Michael was one of the founding partners of Chatham Partners in 2016.

He is the author and co-author of several publications, including, amongst others, the PPP Handbuch, a standard work in the field of public law.
