Deutsche ErdWärme GmbH - Drilling project for the extraction of deep geothermal energy in Graben-Neudorf approved

Main operating plan approved after review

The Regional Council of Freiburg has approved the drilling project for the extraction of deep geothermal energy of Deutsche Erdwärme GmbH (DEW) in Graben-Neudorf. The authority does not expect any earthquake damage. After the summer holidays, the regional council and the municipality want to inform the citizens.

DEW plans to develop a thermal water reservoir at a depth of 3,500 to 3,700 metres in Graben-Neudorf with two boreholes. The first drilling is expected to start in January 2022.

In addition to Graben-Neudorf, DEW is pursuing three other development projects in the Upper Rhine region. They are located in Waghäusel, Karlsruhe and Dettenheim. The main shareholder of the geothermal specialist is the Danish infrastructure fund Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.

Chatham Partners is advising DEW extensively on the development of the projects and related issues.
